What Are Considered Large and Small Doses?

Before we dive into what dosages, we are going to take another opportunity to point out that there are many factors including genetics, other medications are taken, purity of the supplement, etc. that can in essence allow a small dose of Kratom over time to accumulate and cause large dose effects and vice versa. You should always consult a healthcare provider knowledgeable about Kratom and potential interactions before starting a Kratom supplement.

Now back to the topic at hand, the difference between a small dose and a large dose of Kratom. A low dose of Kratom is considered to be under 6 grams, while anything over 6 grams is considered a high dose. It’s worth pointing out that if you do choose to give Kratom a try, it’s best to start at lower doses and progressively increase the dose until you get the desired effects you’re seeking.

Specific Kratom Strains for Euphoria

While all Kratom is derived from the Mitragyna speciosa plant, Kratom is divided between three major classifications and then further classified based on specific areas of Southeast Asia that the plant is harvested. The three broad classifications of Kratom are red vein, green vein, and white vein. The color describes the color of the veins running through the leaves of the plant and also where the plant is in the growth cycle when it’s harvested.

Like with any living thing, the older or mature it becomes the more oxidative reactions occur. This is important to understand as oxidation causes molecules to break down or convert to other molecules. In Kratom, one of the major molecules called mitragynine is converted to the other molecule responsible for many of the effects experienced by Kratom users, 7-HMG. This conversion happens naturally with time and can be quickened with increased exposure to UV radiation, you know sunlight! 7-HMG has a particular effect on the opioid receptors of the brain and body, so expect strains that have more 7-HMG to be better at addressing pain.

The Broad Strains: High-Level View

No matter which broad category of Kratom you select, you will be getting both mitragynine and 7-HMG, it’s the proportion of each of these molecules in each strain that gives each strain its unique effects.

The Kratom strain harvested with the least amount of time to mature is the red vein Kratom, which has more mitragynine and less 7-HMG. Red veins have a calming effect, elevate mood, but aren’t the best option for those looking specifically for pain relief.

White vein Kratom is given the most time to mature before harvesting and thus has the most 7-HMG content. It’s the best one for pain relief but isn’t recommended for inexperienced Kratom users as its effects are intense.
